Bidding terms

These are the rules every auction on billboard.gg runs under. They apply the moment you place a bid.

What a bid commits you to

Placing a bid authorises your card for that amount. An authorisation is a hold, not a payment. The money stays in your account and is not transferred to us.

If you are outbid, the hold is released. If the auction closes with your bid in front and at or above the reserve, the hold is captured and you have bought that week. A bid is not withdrawable once accepted.

How an auction closes

Bidding on each board runs for 5 days. Bids ascend in steps of at least $64, and the first bid must meet the published reserve.

A bid accepted within 5 minutes of the close pushes the close 5 minutes past that bid, and keeps doing so until that window passes without a bid.

Acceptance is decided on our server using server time. A countdown in your browser is a display. A bid arriving at or after the effective closing timestamp is late, and where two bids compete, the first one our server accepts wins.

What you are buying

One named digital billboard, for 7 consecutive days, with 500 plays of a 15-second creative every day: 3,500 plays and 14 h 35 m of screen time across the week.

This is rotating visibility, not exclusive use of the screen. Your creative runs alongside other advertisers. Plays are distributed across the board’s stated operating hours; where a board does not run overnight, its hours are published on its page.

Each auction is a separate lot. Winning one board gives you no claim on any other board, in the same city or elsewhere, and each win creates its own order.

Creative and approval

Winners supply artwork at the board’s native resolution. Every creative is reviewed by us and then by the screen operator, whose content policy is final and varies by city. Alcohol, gambling, political and adult content are restricted on most boards.

Rejected artwork can be resubmitted. If no version of your creative can be approved for the board you won, the order is cancelled and refunded in full.

Delivery and shortfalls

Scheduled and actual plays are recorded for each day of your campaign and reported to you afterwards.

Where a board delivers fewer plays than promised on a given day, the shortfall is made good with additional plays within the following seven days, or refunded pro rata at your choice. Excess plays on one day do not discharge a shortfall on another.

Cancellation

Once a bid is accepted we do not change the board, the campaign dates, the reserve or the package for that auction. If something material has to change, the auction is cancelled, every hold is released and the lot is relisted.

If a winner’s capture fails, we may offer the lot to the next eligible bidder at their own bid, provided it meets the reserve. That offer is an offer; no bidder is charged without accepting it.

Unsold lots

If no bid reaches the reserve the lot is unsold. No order is created, no media is bought, and the board is relisted for a later week.

Prices and tax

Prices are shown in your selected currency and exclude applicable taxes. Converted prices are estimates; bids settle in GBP. Taxes and any charges are shown in full before you are asked to commit.

Questions about any of this before you bid? Ask us. It is a better use of everyone’s time than a dispute afterwards.
